How to Winter-Proof Your Car

We just had a record-breaking December that dumped the most snow in 50 years. Donner Pass got an astounding 193.7 inches in 2 weeks!!  ❄️ ❄️ ❄️ 🤯

With this amount of snow and ice comes extreme risk and damage to the paint on your car or truck that leaves a sorry sight when summer comes around. Some of the culprits are sodium chloride (salt), liquid magnesium chloride, calcium chloride, calcium magnesium acetate and potassium acetate — chemicals used to prevent and remove snow and ice from roadways.

At VIP Auto Spa/Ceramic Pro Reno, we take the REMOVAL of these harsh elements very seriously. So far this year we have completed about 50 detailing jobs and it’s interesting to consistently see how our Ceramic Pro customers' cars are half as dirty and get clean twice as fast!

Here's a screenshot of two text messages I received from Ceramic Pro customers just last week! 👇🏼 This is the power of Ceramic Pro ceramic coatings to keep your vehicles, homes, RV's, toys, etc. looking #alwaysnew and to help #protectyourinvestment.

Sadly, there’s a tendency for people to put car care to the wayside during the winter. Unfortunately, that's a luxury that a car can't survive.

And if you think because the weather is bad you can't get your car detailed or ceramic coated — this is just not true. In fact, getting your car waxed or ceramic coated starts giving immediate benefits. Around the shop, we like to say: “Ceramic coating is the gift that keeps on giving!”

First, you will be amazed with the shiny, glossy coat when you pick your car up. Then after two weeks, when it’s washed for the first time, you will be amazed at how easily it gets clean. Then, two months later, it's the same... and two months after that. Then, a year later (after we do the annual refresh) the car will blow you away. Then 3-5 years after when you go to sell or trade your car in you will be amazed at how good it still looks.

DEALING WITH CORROSIVE ROAD SALT

While road salt does a great job keeping our roads in good winter driving condition, it’s tough on our cars. This salt, coupled with the snow, can get stuck to the sides of your car resulting in a corrosive effect that can lead to rust, pitting, and paint peeling.

To prevent this, you should wipe your car down gently using a soft rag or microfiber cloth to remove salt and debris. That being said, avoid scrubbing or using a circular motion to remove the snow and salt, as you risk scratching your car's paint job.
