Keep Your Ceramic Coated Ride Gleaming All Summer AT HOME!

This summer, let us not forget about our trusty steeds—the ceramic-coated cars that carry us through life’s adventures. In this post, we will dive into the art of at-home ceramic coating maintenance. Buckle up, because it’s time to rev up your knowledge! 👇🏼

Step-by-step guide for at-home ceramic coating maintenance

STEP 1—The Two-Bucket Method: Rinse, Rinse, Repeat!

The 2-bucket wash method is a technique used to ensure a scratch-free, thorough clean for your vehicle—add a third bucket just for wheels.

  1. Fill one bucket with warm, soapy water (use a gentle car wash soap).

  2. Fill the other bucket with clean water for rinsing.

  3. Make sure each vehicle panel is wet before applying the soapy mitt.

  4. Dunk your wash mitt in the soapy water.

  5. Start at the top and work your way down, washing one panel at a time.

  6. After each panel, rinse the mitt thoroughly in the clean water bucket.
This is a key factor and prevents dirt from redepositing on the mitt and scratching the paint.

  7. Rinse the vehicle down with hose or pressure washer to remove all of the soapy water from the surface.

  8. NEVER use the wheel bucket or towels for anything but the wheels.

Remember, Dad taught us to wash from the roof down, right? Well, he was onto something!

STEP 2—Drying Done Right: One Panel, One Towel

After washing, start drying from the top of the vehicle and and work your way down.

  • Use that trusty leaf blower and let as much water beautifully bead off as possible.

  • Then grab a couple of clean microfiber towels.

  • Dry one panel at a time. Fold the towel over or use a different towel for each panel to avoid dirt transfer; top to bottom.

  • Don’t rub aggressively—pat the surface gently. Your car deserves a spa treatment!

STEP 3—Towel Talk: Keep It Clean!

If you take good care of your towels and wash mitts, they'll take care you.

  • Reserve specific wash mitts and towels exclusively for the car’s body. Never use them on wheels or other grimy surfaces.

  • After each wash, toss your mitts and towels in the washing machine (wash wheel towels separately). Skip the fabric softener—it leaves a residue that can interfere with your ceramic coating’s shine.

STEP 4—Waterless Wash: When Time Is Short

Waterless washes are the perfect solution when you have limited time or don't have access to water.

  • Waterless sprays are specially formulated products that encapsulate and lift dirt and grime away from the vehicle's surface.

  • Spray generously onto a panel, then wipe with a clean side of a microfiber cloth for each panel.

  • This is perfect for spot cleaning or between full washes. The best part is this can be done virtually anywhere, making it highly convenient.

This summer, let’s celebrate fun, family, and flawless rides. Remember, proper maintenance ensures that your ceramic-coated car shines brighter than the 4th of July fireworks. From all of us at VIP Auto Spa, Ceramic Pro Reno, have a safe and spectacular summer!
